Power of Story Cancellation Policy

We understand circumstances change and the unexpected happens. 

If you have registered for a Power of Story workshop and are unable to attend, email the facilitator before the workshop. We appreciate notice as far in advance as possible. You’ll find your facilitator’s email address in the registration confirmation email.

As a not-for-profit organization, we rely on you to help us serve as many writers as possible. By notifying us in advance, we can:

  • Open spaces to waitlisted writers so they receive the benefits of writing in community, 
  • Reduce costs by hiring the right number of facilitators for the group size (allowing us to offer more workshops), and 
  • Have bursary funds available for everyone with financial need.

With advance notification of the cancellation, we offer a credit in the same dollar amount that can be used toward a future Power of Story registration fee. 

For example, if you are unable to attend a single session, you’ll receive a $20 credit toward another Power of Story workshop. If you register for another single-session workshop, you’ll be able to join at no additional cost. If you register for a four-week series, you’ll receive $20 off the $80 registration fee. You would pay $60 to join the series.

Alternatively, you can donate your registration fee to the Power of Story program. Please email us to tell us that’s what you’d like to do. Donations like yours help us fund spaces for writers who otherwise couldn’t afford to join. You’ll have our thanks and gratitude. 

Credits can only be used for Power of Story workshops. Other AWA-sponsored events, affiliate workshops, or membership dues are not eligible.
