What can an AWA writing group do to energize, inspire, and restore teachers? Join this group and discover for yourself how writing in a community of PK-16+ educators can provide a space for reflection, expression, and growth. Addressing the learning needs of students and the demands of institutions makes it difficult for educators to tend to their own learning. This workshop is an opportunity to tend to, celebrate, and empower teacher voice, growth, and well-being.
Designed for teachers of any kind, the workshop provides a safe environment for participants to generate writing drawn from human intelligence (no need for AI here). For educators who love to write, this workshop is a great outlet for your craft. For educators who fear writing, this workshop is a great way to build confidence (or just play with words). Based on the premise that the best professional development is personal growth, this workshop supports personal growth within community.
No prior AWA or writing experience is needed! The workshop will introduce AWA methods including a warm-up write, two prompted writing invitations, and facilitated strengths-based responses to shared pieces. After the workshop, participants may opt to apply insights to their teaching and/or to extend the writing done in our workshop for professional or personal purposes. The first step, and worthy goal, is to participate with a group of educators who listen to their own inner voices and support each other’s shared stories. Through writing and affirmation of our work, we will nourish ourselves as individuals and teachers.
