Write for Your Life with Joanne Brown

May 6, 2023 at 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm EDT

$10 – $20

Treat yourself to a lively online writing “retreat!” In this workshop we will write together, using the acclaimed Amherst Writers & Artists method. Together we foster a community of support enabling you to write freely and go deep: writing in response to suggested prompts, building trust in your unique voice, receiving feedback on what’s strong in your first-draft writing. All are welcome: beginners, those beginning again, and experienced writers.

Joanne Fay Brown has led Amherst Writers & Artists Workshops in Oakland, Oaxaca, Mexico, Santa Fe, and Ghost Ranch, NM. Following an award-winning career as a writer in the corporate world, she now devotes herself to poetry, and to the magic of writing with others. She leads AWA workshops for a general adult population, as well as a writing workshop for cancer patients and survivors.

I was certified as an Amherst Writers & Artists affiliate in 2012, and have been leading and loving AWA workshops since then — in Oaxaca, Mexico, Berkeley, California, Santa Fe and Ghost Ranch, New Mexico. I write regularly with a group of AWA poets, and am currently working on a collection of poems about growing up in a leftist family during the McCarthy Era.

Current Workshop Offerings:

      • ”Write For Your Life”: A Writing Workshop for Everyone.
      • ”Write to Heal” A Workshop for Cancer Patients and Survivors.

Currently all of my workshops are online. Previous to the pandemic, my workshops met in my comfortable home less than a mile from the Santa Fe Plaza. “Write to Heal” was held at the Cancer Foundation for New Mexico office.

In all cases, we write with others in a small group. Together we foster a supportive community enabling participants to write freely and go deep: writing in response to suggested prompts, building trust among the group and in our unique voices.

I worked as a writer in the corporate world for 25 years and now devote time to the magic of writing with others and to reading, writing and publishing poetry. I also am a cancer survivor and a Master in Social Work, using my life experience in my writing and my professional skills to guide my workshops.
